What is new in RFM 3.01?
------------------------
* When moving more than one directory to another drive a runtime error
could occur. Not any more.
What is new in RFM 3.00?
------------------------
* In earlier versions of RFM, after clicking the left button on an execu-
table file or in the "Util"-window, then after the program had ended you
had to **** press any button **** to get back into RFM. Now you will
get back into RFM immediately, so WITHOUT button press.
If you do want to wait for a button press to get back into RFM, however,
(for instance if the program you executed leaves important information
behind on the screen that you want to read) all you have to do is HOLD
DOWN THE ALT-KEY while clicking the left button on an executable or in
the "Util"-window.
This also holds for the "Exec"-window : clicking a button on the "Exec"-
button or pressing 'E' on the keyboard returns you to RFM immediately
after the execution of the program, holding ALT while clicking on the
"Exec"-button or pressing 'ALT-E' on the keyboard waits until you
press a button before returning to RFM.
* In earlier versions of RFM you could mark a file by holding down CTRL,
ALT or SHIFT and at the same time pressing any button. This has changed
now to only CTRL or SHIFT (So ALT does not work anymore, see above)!!!!
* NEW BUTTONS:
Count - This button counts the number of bytes used by each marked
DIRECTORIES and their total.
Unarc - When you click the left mouse button on an archive file,
you can extract its contents to a directory of your choice.
When you had several archive files and you wanted them all
to be extracted to the same directory, you had to do this
for every archive file. NOT ANY MORE!!
If you want several archive files to be extracted to the
same directory, mark them, click the 'Unarc'-button, choose
your destination, and all will be extracted to that directory
Fill - Fills your diskettes in drive A: or B: to the maximum with
your marked FILES in the current directory. E.g. if you marked
10 Mb worth on files, and you want to copy these to diskettes
in drive A: then 'Fill' copies these files hereby "filling"
the diskette as good as possible. The diskettes need not be
empty and if a file already exists RFM will ask permission
to overwrite it.
Find - Finds a file and optionally copies it to the current directory.
Also allows you to change to the directory where the file was
found.
Help - Context sensitive help system. RFM.DOC is not needed anymore.
Configure RFM - RFMCFG.EXE disappeared. Configuring RFM now goes from
within RFM. Totally rewritten the configuration part.
Extra options, much more user-friendly.
Screen Saver - The screen saver option moved from under the "Disp"-
button to a button of its own inside RFM.
* Added an extra option to the configuration menu: 'Associate an extension
with a program'. Here you can tell RFM which program it must execute
when you click on a file with a certain extension (just like the MS-
WINDOWS associate). In earlier RFM versions this was already present but
you had to edit the file VIEW.CFG to establish an association. Now it
is done much more user-friendly from within RFM (under "Configure RFM")
* Some buttons changed place to a better place (e.g "Util" and "Sort")
* When renaming a directory RFM didn't update the directory-tree.
Now it does.
* You don't have to specify the extension of a program anymore in the
'Utilities'-window
* RFM uses more keys of the keyboard now (see 'Help' inside RFM)
* When RFM asked to overwrite a file the options were :"Yes", "No"
and "All". There is an extra option now called "None" which causes
none of the already existing files to be overwritten.
* All internal commands of your command processor are supported when you
type them in the "Exec"-window (so 4DOS.COM is worth installing)
(By the way : 4DOS.COM is THE BEST replacement for COMMAND.COM available,
once you've used it you never want anything else anymore)
* Improved the looks of RFM.
* Earlier when you marked a direcory to be archived, it wasn't done.
Now it will be archived as well.
* Program V.COM and VIEW.CFG disappeared. V.COM is now integrated inside
RFM. RFM_VIEW.DAT replaces VIEW.CFG and is configurated from under the
Configuration-button inside RFM. Much more user-friendly.
* INSTALL.EXE now checks which archive programs you have and writes
RFM_ARCH.DAT and RFM_VIEW.DAT for you.
* When you quit an operation that involves marked files, all marks will
still be present.
* RFM checks the drives that you really have. In earlier versions RFM
checked the LASTDRIVE setting and used this to display the drivebuttons.
Now, if you don't have a drive B: for instance, RFM does not display
a button marked 'B:'.
* Novell directories do not have directories '.' and '..'. RFM is aware
of that now.
* During execution of a program only 1008 bytes of RFM remain in memory.
(This was 1056)
* Speeded up the deleting of directories with 150-1000%, depending on the
directory structure you are deleting.
* If you installed RFM TO the same directory as you installed it FROM,
INSTALL corrupted some files of RFM. Not anymore.
* A lot of minor bugs fixed.
What is new in RFM 2.10?
------------------------
* If you click on the volume label, a window will pop up allowing you
to change the volume label of a disk
* You can also execute BTM-files which 4DOS uses. You can run them by
clicking on then and also by typing its name in the EXEC-window.
* when extracting an LHA-file to a directory, LHA required that the
directory name be ended by a '\', as in 'C:\GAMES\'.
RFM however passed 'C:\GAMES' to LHA, causing LHA not to extract it.
This is fixed now.
* When typing 'DEL' in the EXEC-window the warning "file not found"
would appear. Not any more.
* When moving files accross the same drive, RFM would ask for every
already existing target file whether to overwrite it or not, even
if you clicked on "Overwrite All" before. This is fixed now.
* Marking files is now also possible by pressing both the left and the
right mouse button
* Pressing ESC when a window is open now closes the window instead of
quitting RFM. Pressing ESC when NO window is open still quits RFM
What is new in RFM 2.00?
------------------------
* Moved buttons from right to left on the screen, for shorter distance to
the files that are displayed.
* Removed the "ChangeDrive"-button. All available drives are now available
as a separate button. You can now change drives with one click of the
mouse instead of two clicks.
* Removed the "Read"-button, to reread a drive simply click the button of
the current drive.
* New button called "Tree" which displays all directories of the current
drive in 'tree-form'. Click on a directory and you will change to it.
* During a Copy, Move, or Unarchive-operation the mouse cursor changes shape.
Also an hourglas-cursor will appear when RFM is busy.
* Two new options under the "Disp"-button : "File Mask", which allows you
to specify a mask for the files to be displayed, e.g."M*.PAS", and
"Executables", which will display all executable files in the current
directory.
* The position of the mouse cursor is saved when you execute a program.
* After choosing QUIT in a copy or move operation, RFM displayed only the
directories instead of everything. This is fixed now.
* A TURBO PASCAL-error erased/damaged the first file you selected when you
tried to move or delete files from a write-protected disk. This is fixed now.
* When you clicked "PgDn" once or more in a directory listing, and then
executed a program, then AFTER the program had ended RFM would display
the beginning of the directory instead of the same part of the directory
you were looking at when executing the program. This is fixed now.
* The keyboard buffer is emptied before a Keyboard-Input-Window pops up and
before the program is quitted.
* Marked files are 'remembered' when you execute a program, as long as you
don't change directory, or as long as there are no extra files in the
directory due to the execution of the program.
So, suppose you marked two GIF-files, and you want to view a third GIF-
file first before deciding to mark this file as well, simply view the file
and after viewing it your two marked files are still present.
What is new in RFM 1.10?
------------------------
* When moving or copying a directory inside itself, RFM fauled up. You will
get an error message now when trying to do that.
* Rewritten the loader in ASSEMBLY for minimal size, so that 1040 bytes
remain in memory now when executing a program, instead of 7312 bytes before
* Made some changes to RFMCFG
What is new in RFM 1.02?
------------------------
Only a few minor bug fixes, no big changes
